Before starting activities, the following must be agreed:
Track in use and the responsibility for correct laying in the signal yard
Active drop zone (DZ) / separation of activities
Mutual information about intensity and period for both activities
Normally, skydiving and gliding will be geographically separated via the asphalt runway and its extended center line. The glider’s operating area is north of the asphalt runway and can fly freely in this area without coordination.
The parachutists have two primary drop zones (DZ) (see Fig. 1):
DZ West + DZ East:
Box measuring 1 nm in the east / west direction and 0.75 nm in the north / south direction, located from the trench and resp. in the eastern direction (DZ East) and western direction (DZ West). Only one of these jumping areas can be active at a time.
The gliders can, as long as there are no jumpers in the air, move freely in the entire southern area under the normal rules applicable to Herning Airport.
When jumpers are fitted, gliders must not be within the active jumping area. It is the individual commander who is responsible for finding out whether the airspace is free, and for the jumpers it is the jump leader’s responsibility that there is no other traffic within DZ (See section 3.0).
When the mean wind direction is between 330 and 030 degrees and the mean wind speed is 8 – 10 kt or more, the parachutists will need to drop jumpers in the area north of the asphalt track. In this case, a special drop zone (DZ North) will be created which is active from the jumpers leaving the jumper until the last jumper is on the ground. During this time, this area must not be flown by glider and no game starts may be made. It is the commander who is responsible for ensuring that he does not fly through the active drop zone or start the game.
It is expected that per start, it will usually take a maximum of 5 minutes from the drop until the last jumper is on the ground. In the event that the parachutists need to maintain the drop zone for an extended period of time, this can only be done with the permission of the glider pilot.
DZ North is defined horizontally with the trench as the center in a radius of 100 meters and a sector with a spread angle of 25 degrees, and vertical extent on the south side of the asphalt track down to GND, and north of the asphalt track from 2000 ft AGL with unlimited height ceiling (see fig 2)
When DZ Nord is active, gliders must ensure separation to the zone, which in normal operation will not be a factor, but for safety reasons it is recommended to lay any. landing round extra far to the north, just as home flight to hangar from the east is not allowed if there are jumpers in the air.
Gliders can get information about any jumping activity by calling a jump leader or jumping plane at 121,000 Mhz. Alternatively, information can be obtained from Karup TMA at 120,425.
Before a glider flies into a jumping area, the commander must have become familiar with jumping activity and have a listening obligation of 121,000 Mhz.
The jumping aircraft reports two minutes before the drop at 121,000 Mhz, and gliders must seek out of the active drop zone no later than immediately thereafter. When the jumper has reported two minutes, the jumper must confirm this and ensure that there is no other traffic in the drop zone.
Springfly reports “Drop completed”, and jump leader reports “Last jump on the ground”.
The standard procedure for home threshing with a glider to EKHG takes place using a 3 km arrival ring, so that the pilot can dispose of his landing after completing the task without entering an active drop zone.
If an FAI assignment or record attempt is flown where the arrival ring is not approved and the glider pilot needs to cross an active drop zone, the glider pilot must coordinate with a jump guide or jumper of 121,000 Mhz, so that he has the opportunity to hold jumpers back until the glider is out. jumping zones.
The glider commander is responsible for making the jumper leader aware of the start and end of gliding activities, and the jumper leader is conversely responsible for making the glider commander aware of the start and end of parachuting activity.
The two activities must coordinate applicable standard procedures and any amended and special procedures by telephone. The jump leader is responsible for maintaining the listening obligation on his mobile phone and VHF radio, and with the gliders there will be a mobile phone in the take-off bus as the gliding leader is responsible for maintaining the listening obligation, which will normally be performed by the game guard. No obligation to listen on VHF radio can be guaranteed.

Here are the local procedures for flying in Herning:
Before departure, a 2-way radio contact must be established at 121.00. Karup ATIS 120,575 can usually be reached on the ground for local weather and QNH if the office is not staffed in Herning.
Call Karup Approach (120,425) immediately after take off. Remember Karup TMA starts at 1500 ft., And remember that if you use lane 09 you will fly very fast into Karup CTR unless you immediately turn south.
